Emblems are in the same vein as the Flow Series. Measuring only 8"x8", they are smaller tokens of a bigger representation of a larger whole. Drawn from previous and new patterns, they play more freely with color across a broader palette than the larger works. The pieces lend themselves to random juxtaposition, creating more dynamic tensions than the continuous threads of the other multi-panel pieces.

"An Emblem, in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, was an enigmatic picture with a motto and explanatory verse attached. In the sixteenth and seventeeth centuries, emblems often took the form of puzzling little drawings, the meaning of which was explained in appended verses.... In modern usage, an emblem is a visible object representing an abstract quality...." (members.fortunecity.es/fabianvillegas/drama/glossary-e.htm)
